We’re expecting Infiniti to launch its first hybrid sometime in either 2010 or 2011, likely based on the M35 luxury sedan. Unlike past hybrids from Nissan, parent company of the Infiniti brand, this new technology will not be a licensed version of Toyota’s Hybrid Synergy Drive. Interestingly, reports out of Japan indicate that this new hybrid tech could filter on down the line to find itself under the shapely hood of Nissan’s new 370Z.
If these rumors are accurate, expect the fuel-saving sports car to be equipped with a lithium ion battery from corporate partner NEC that feeds power to a lone electric motor sandwhiched between the Z’s 3.7-liter VQ V6 engine and transmission. The dual-headed powertrain is reportedly expected to achieve 35 miles per gallon on the mixed cycle, though those are likely Japanese figures that don’t often jive with U.S. EPA numbers.

One way to win races is to bury the pedal and never lift. It would appear Nissan may be following the same plan with the development of its GT-R. Rather than sit around and let the car’s development go cold, Nissan is continuing to refine its bargain supercar slayer.
Nürburgring watchers have noticed a seemingly base model GT-R lapping the track lately. There’s camo on the front and rear fascias - somewhat strange for a car that’s been released for public consumption - so the folks at gtrblog took a closer look.
While it may look innocuous enough, the latest GT-R o be snapped on its German vacation has aerodynamic pieces that are subtly different, leading gtrblog to come to the conclusion that this is probably thee 2011 version of Nissan’s Godzilla. Thanks for the tip, Jim!

The economy sucks, so no one’s buying new cars. Gas prices are low, though, so filling up the cars you have isn’t the ritual blood sacrifice that took place every time you pulled up to the pump last summer. Under normal financial circumstances, this actually wouldn’t be a bad time to release the latest versions of your pricey, jumbo-sized, V8-powered fuel-swiller. These aren’t normal circumstances, though, and since product cycles are merciless and blind to current events, Nissan is stuck releasing the 2010 Armada in May anyway. There’s the standard SE trim (base price: $37,210 to $42,810) of course, and the 2010 Nissan Armada adds enhanced precious-metal nomenclature with Titanium (base price:$42,140 to $44,940) and Platinum (base price: $49,390 to $52,190) special editions. Reshuffled content in each model apparently represents better value than similarly-equipped trucks from last year. The same goes for the new 2010 Nissan Murano “360° Value Package” ($33,280 to $34,880), which bundles a bunch of popular featuresinto the Murano SL. The Battle for top honors at the Nordschleife continues, with yet another revised ‘Ring time for the Nissan GT-R. After a second day of testing, Nissan claims that the 2010 model hacked off nearly a second from its time on Wednesday, delivering an unofficial lap of 7:26.7 - a mere four-tenths of second behind the Corvette ZR1’s official time and just over a second slower than the Ferrari Enzo. As always, unofficial times should be taken with the appropriate amount of NaCl, and the way things are going, we expect Porsche (or GM) to fire back, at which point Nissan may finally release the GT-R SpecV’s lap time.
